Andhra couple end their lives after being harassed by loan application officers

RAJAMAHENDRAVARAM/ VIJAYAWADA: The state government has decided to take firm action against the operators of lending apps that operate without the permission of the Reserve Bank of India. Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy has urged officials to crack the whip against illegal lending apps hours after a couple died by suicide in Rajamahendravaram, allegedly unable to bear pressure from app operators loan to repay the loan.

Srilatha said Two Town Police had launched an investigation and found that the victims had been harassed by loan application officers. Meanwhile, Additional SP Rajani advised people to be wary of apps offering easy loans. She said that individuals and businessmen are falling prey to the lucrative offers distributed by operators. She warned people to be careful before downloading and borrowing money through lending apps because the operators would collect personal data.
