Surveillance circular against 3 Chinese nationals for operating an illegal lending app

The Bureau of Immigration has issued a surveillance circular against three Chinese nationals for allegedly operating an illegal digital lending app in India, officials said on Sunday.

The circular was issued following a missive in this regard by the Economic Crimes Wing of Odisha.

Earlier this month, a surveillance circular was also issued against another Chinese national on the same charge.

They are the mastermind and the main accused. The defendants were using illegal digital lending apps, according to an official statement.

There are more than a million victims of the app across the country, he said.

Evidence suggests they are involved in similar scams in countries including Indonesia, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Nepal and Bangladesh, the statement said.

Further investigation is underway, officials said.
